Office Joseph Brookover Lau is a Greensboro, North Carolina based practice dedicated to creating lasting and responsive architecture for people and their environments. We see each project as a chance to positively impact the social and physical landscape of our cities and neighborhoods. Our approach to challenges is rooted in optimism, focusing on how design can fulfill essential human needs.
At its core, OJBL creates spaces, but our mission extends beyond that—we aim to connect individuals and communities, enhance daily life, and strike a balance between rigor and joy at every turn. While our projects range in scale, they all share a commitment to craftsmanship and thoughtful detail with particular attention to natural light, authentic materials, and crafting space for daily life.
OJBL is lead by Joseph Brookover Lau, a registered architect in North Carolina and Virginia. OJBL takes on select residential renovations, additions, and new construction clients.
Joseph serves as Studio Director for the startup housing company, HUTS, a residential design and development firm focused on de-stressing the process of designing and building a home. He is adept at guiding project teams – including clients, engineers, contractors, and craftspeople – towards a unified goal. This alignment ensures transparent communication, design excellence, and high level execution at every stage.
He has an extensive academic background, with degrees in architecture from The Ohio State University and University of Virginia where he authored, edited, and designed books addressing the integral roles of design research and design practice.
